We spent a lot of time and effort picking the woods we use. Early on we tried multiple woods that we felt would speak to many different people, but soon realized that one local Texas wood had it all.  Black walnut.  The chocolate-brown heartwood is heavy, hard and strong, and is surrounded by a thin band of cream-colored sapwood. The wood is free from warping and checking, takes a high polish, and is durable, making it highly prized for furniture , cabinet work, and of course, cutting boards!.

To complement the dark tones of  the Walnut, we choose Maple.  The color of Maple ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue.  It beautifully stands out next to the Brown walnut and matches it in durability.
